ADEPT/CIPFA webinar: Sustainable procurement for places 31 March

Wednesday 31st March 2.00-3.00pm

How can we harness the power of public procurement to meet the climate change challenge? Following its 10 Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution, the Government’s recent Green Paper Transforming Public Procurement set out its ambition for smarter and innovative procurement to drive key outcomes including tackling climate change. CIPFA and ADEPT can work together to help develop the skills and capacity that local authorities need to help deliver green recovery through green procurement.

In this webinar Mohamed Hans, CIPFA’s Procurement and Insurance Adviser, will explain how local authorities can work with suppliers to introduce new technology and specifications to drive the market and develop solutions that help tackle the causes and effects of climate change. Carolyn McKenzie will describe Surrey County Council’s work on a green procurement strategy, using social value to redesign procurement practices and influence across their supply chain to require and incentivise environmentally responsible commissioning (part of the LGA/Design Council Design in the Public Sector Programme). David Ogden from Amey and Neil Gibson from the Excellence in Place Leadership Programme will talk about outcomes-based commissioning and procurement, changing purchasing systems to support a local authority’s sustainable place strategy.
