Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects: A Guide for Local Authority Promoters

Venue: De Vere Colmore Gate, Birmingham, B3 2QD

Date: Wednesday 6 June, 10am–4pm

WSP are pleased to invite ADEPT members to this free keynote event.

Many local authorities have made the case for their infrastructure projects to be treated as Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) and are securing planning consent and land acquisition powers through an application for a Development Consent Order (DCO).

If you are considering whether your project could be treated as an NSIP, if you are taking your project through the DCO process, or if you are a hosting local authority, you will be interested in this FREE event. Tailored to the interests of local authorities, it will provide an overview of the DCO process (advantages and disadvantages), offer practical guidance on how to determine whether your project is an NSIP, along with top tips on how to successfully navigate your way through the DCO process.

It will provide insights into how local authorities have prepared for and secured DCOs and is a great opportunity to share experience and lessons learnt with colleagues from local authorities and other organisations from across the country.   The agenda for the day will cover:

  • Introduction – WSP
  • The DCO Process and the Role of Local Authorities – David Price, Planning Inspectorate
  • The Challenges and Benefits of the DCO Route – Liz Dunn, Burges Salmon
  • Lake Lothing Case Study: Invaluable insights on securing the right team and process - Michael Wilks & Jon Barnard, Suffolk County Council
  • Making the Business Case for your Project – John Collins, WSP
  • The Importance of Building Flexibility into Designs – Phillippa Glennie, WSP
  • What to Consider if your Region is Hosting a NSIP – Marcus Wood, WSP
  • Top Tips for Compulsory Purchase and Land Acquisition – Vicky Bramhill, WSP
  • Lessons Learnt from DCO Process – Amy Hallam, WSP

Refreshments and lunch will be provided.   Please RSVP to reserve your place here.
