Media statement - spending review 2025 response

Angela Jones, President of ADEPT, said:

"We welcome the additional capital funding for local government announced in the Spending Review 2025, along with the commitment to multi-year settlements, which will provide the certainty to manage services effectively. We look forward to seeing more detail on how this will work in practice.

“However, we have concerns about department day to day spending allocations. Place based services including roads, waste collection and green spaces form the backbone of healthy communities. However, local authorities cannot deliver these vital services while facing staff cuts and efficiency targets. This creates a direct barrier to the prosperity and growth that government seeks to achieve.

"Services are already stretched to breaking point - true transformation must ensure devolution of powers matches funding increases, with long-term certainty beyond this spending review period.

"ADEPT remains dedicated to pursuing long-term, sustainable solutions for the sector, including comprehensive local government change and meaningful devolution that gives local authorities the powers and resources they need to deliver for their communities."
