President update 1st August - latest news from ADEPT
Hello everyone,
My first few weeks as President of ADEPT have been exceptionally busy and productive! Over the last month, I’ve been to the LGA Conference, caught up with colleagues at the corporate partner event and leadership alumni gathering and taken part in some great conversations around devolution and local government reform.
I’ve also been getting involved with the planning for the ADEPT Autumn Conference (book here) and had the pleasure of catching up with Mitesh Solanki, the new President of CIHT. Plus chaired an ADEPT Leadership Team meeting. So it’s been a packed few weeks, but I’m loving every minute!
We are now approaching a pivotal time for local government. ADEPT responded to the recently published English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill, welcoming the opportunity it presents for strengthening local leadership and place-based service delivery. We are analysing the bill in detail and will continue to engage with government and partners as it progresses through Parliament.
I wanted to remind you about our newly launched programmes. The ADEPT Carbon Leadership Programme, supported by DfT, funds local highway authorities to measure and identify how to reduce carbon emissions in a consistent and comparative way. There’s been significant interest in the programme since its launch in June, so we’ve added more training dates - on 20th August, 10th September and 17th September – find out more here.
We’re still accepting applications for the ADEPT Digital Academy. Completely funded through the Apprenticeship Levy and powered by Multiverse, the programme is designed to accelerate digital and data skills across local authorities – more here. Please do take advantage of these fantastic opportunities.
I also wanted to flag up the 7th National Traffic Managers' Conference - it's taking place this year in Birmingham on Wednesday 8th October. The agenda is now available and you can book your free place here. I'd like to encourage you to come along if you can - these face-to-face opportunities to share what's working are more valuable than ever.
I look forward to working with you all over the coming months and continuing to drive ADEPT forward as we tackle the challenges and opportunities ahead.
